What We Do and What We’re All About

The Tutoring Company is a Gainesville-based peer tutoring service that provides a unique and tailored learning experience to students who have either struggled in a traditional learning environment or seek to earn the highest possible grades by refining the skill-sets they already possess. The Tutoring Company has already served the Gainesville community for five school years, and we’re excited to branch into the Daytona/Ormond, DeLand and St. Augustine communities.

Different Students Require Different Approaches to Learning

The Tutoring Company was built based on the simple philosophy that peer tutoring is the single most effective supplemental learning device students can be exposed to. Not only can our tutors connect with their students to master concepts and material, they can also impart study habits and preparedness that can last a lifetime. At the Tutoring Company, we aim to facilitate a learning environment that makes learning and succeeding enjoyable. We want students to look forward to learning instead of dreading it.

Individualized, Customized Learning

At The Tutoring Company, we believe that the most important factor to successful learning is successful communication. Therein lies the motor that drives peer tutoring. Because students don’t see their tutors as domineering teacher figures, communication lines are open and information can be most effectively exchanged. Teachers and parents have long wondered why some students respond to traditional teaching methods and some don’t. The root of the problem lies in the fact that every person learns differently. While some students are able to thrive in a traditional classroom setting, others need one-on-one attention. The goal of our one-on-one session is to not only set a foundation of skills to excel in class but to also make the experience enjoyable enough that the student does not come to dread learning. Our hope is they will instead embrace and come to appreciate the process and gratification that comes with improvement in the classroom.

Our Tutors and Why It Works

The Tutoring Company employs some of the University of Florida, Embry Riddle and Stetson, and Flagler’s best and brightest students. Not only will they be able to efficiently and quickly teach their students how to work through problems, but they can also teach them how to to properly study and impart upon them a work ethic that will allow them to excel. Because Tutoring Company tutors are so recently removed from learning these concepts themselves, they are familiar with strategies that worked for them and can weed out certain habits that inhibit progress learning the material. At The Tutoring Company, we capitalize on both the benefits of one-on-one learning as well as a modified version of peer tutoring. Tutoring Company tutors are not the same age as the students they teach, but they are young enough to represent someone who is there to work with them instead of talking at them.
